Customs & Cross-Border Trade Consultant

The position
Goods crossing the Franco-Swiss border pass through two customs systems, two VAT regimes and, for many products, origin rules that decide whether duty applies. Our Lyon team advises manufacturers, distributors and logistics providers on how to organise these flows. You will take part in customs audits, procedure design and system projects linked to the French Delta platform and the Swiss Passar programme. You will work closely with our logistics network and transfer pricing teams, since customs value and routing are often decided together.
Responsibilities
- Classify goods under the Combined Nomenclature and the Swiss customs tariff, and prepare binding tariff information requests.
- Review customs valuation, origin and preferential treatment under EU and EFTA free trade agreements.
- Design and document special procedures such as inward processing, customs warehousing and NCTS transit.
- Prepare AEO applications and support clients through audits by the DGDDI and the Swiss Federal Office for Customs and Border Security.
- Analyse declaration data from Delta G, Delta T and e-dec to find errors and unclaimed duty relief.
What the firm looks for
- 3 to 5 years in customs advisory, a customs brokerage or an in-house trade compliance role.
- Practical knowledge of the Union Customs Code and its implementing and delegated acts.
- Experience with French customs systems (Delta G or Delta T) or Swiss e-dec and Passar.
- Ability to read and apply Incoterms 2020 in contracts and commercial invoices.
- French and English at C1 level.
Further advantages
- French registered customs representative (RDE) background.
- Experience with the German ATLAS system.
- Excel or Power BI skills for declaration analytics.
